blogger etiquite

i was messaged and asked to make a post about what to do and not to do when dealing with your blog, so here goes!

+ come on, girls, say it with me: LESS IS MORE. make your layout simple and easy to read. too many colors/designs/fonts create confusion and hurt the eyes of your viewers.

+ if you haven't already, make a twitter. it's the 21st century! besides, followers will now have the option to view you in your "normal habitat" and can get to know you better. and the plus side - faster communication.

+ simple language = good. you're not a businessman/woman talking to executives or people high up in command. it's a blog. talk to your followers as if they're your friends, and be friendly.

+ be open. if you post asking for advice and you don't get the answer you were looking for, simply say thank you and be appreciative that a follower not only read your post, but gave you her own input. which leads me to my next tip...

+ always be kind. if you have comments open to everyone and someone says something nasty, ignore it. it's hard, i know, but people don't always like others opinion so they debase themselves to being rude.

+ just as you wouldn't like rude comments on your blog, keep yourself from posting rude comments on others'. you wouldn't walk into someone's house and immediately insult everything about it, would you? keep it the same way for a blog. a blog is something personal, and if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.

+ if you comment on people's posts, it's likely that they will return the favor. this is called making friends. if you are not similar with that terminology, well..... |ahem| moving on... but yes, if you like someone's post, write up something little and send it to them. getting comments/feedback is always a pleasure.

i must have left some things out, so feel free to post any good tips i've missed and i'll be sure to add them!
